The fisherman sweater trend.

The fisherman’s sweater, also known as the Aran sweater, is typically made out of wool and was created in late 19th century Ireland. Over the past year this style of sweater has seen a resurgence in popularity. It is a classic that now has become a fashion must. This weekend it graced the cover of The Wall Street Journal Magazine. The first time I noticed the sweater was last spring in the Isabel Marant collection. Unfortunately by the time I researched it, it was sold out. I had been searching …

How to add lucite to your world

As you already know from my previous posts such as black and white and silver, I always appreciate when fashion and interiors follow the same trend. In my world, the two certainly influence each other. Lucite has been popular in interiors and we are now seeing fashion designers create accessories in the material. Lucite, which is an acrylic resin, was created in the 30’s. Apartment Therapy has an interesting post on the history of lucite. Lucite works in modern and traditional spaces. It adds a lightness and gleaming visual absence …

Masai Mara, Kenya

The month of May has me pondering and dreaming of summer adventures. I can not forget how excited I was last year at this time when I was patiently awaiting  my trip to Africa. I have previously posted one blog on the Samburu National Park in Kenya and promised to post three more blogs on the trip. Here is the second one on the Masai Mara. The next morning we (myself and my two teenagers) were awake before 5 am in order to travel to our destination for the hot …

How to add silver to your wardrobe

In previous years all I needed for summer was white jeans, a great top and a pair of gold sandals. As much as I still like gold, I am ready for a change. I have started to add silver accents to my wardrobe. Last fall I purchased a pair of silver jeans and ended up wearing them all of the time. Originally, I bought  them to wear to an event but found out they were very versitile. For day I would wear them with a blazer and for night with …

How to Naturally Dye Easter Eggs

Once I started dying easter eggs naturally it ended my long relationship with Paas dye kits. I do, however, miss the wire wands. I first learned about this technique of dying eggs from Martha Stewart magazine. Click here for the original link. For the dye, I used red beets for a mauve color, turmeric for a golden color, cabbage for a robin eggs blue color and coffee for a rich brown color. The procedure is easy but it is time consuming. I prefer to let the eggs soak overnight. It …

How to wear white shoes

Are we ready for white shoes? It certainly is a fashion statement this spring. The last time I wore all white shoes I was the age of the girls below. Above photo from pinterest. In Fall 2012 we started seeing white pumps, especially with the resurrection of the black/white combination. Here are some white sandals, booties and pumps for Spring 2013. Alexander Wang’s version of the gladiator. My Favorites: Louis Vuitton Manolo Blahnik. This daisy design is amazing. Now, let’s take a look at how to wear white shoes. We …

Smitten with Smitten Kitchen

I am smitten with Smitten Kitchen. Usually on Sunday night I will make a chicken entree. It started with roasted chicken, great comfort food which everyones loves. Recently while at a friend’s house for dinner we enjoyed the harvest roasted chicken with grapes and olives. The combination of sweetness from the grapes and saltiness from the olives with rosemary is out of this world. I was aware of Deb Perelman before, however, never had tasted or cooked any of her recipes; now I am hooked.  Here is the recipe. I …

Happy Valentine’s Day

Our personal style influences how we live our life. Every year I make my children homemade Valentine’s Day cards. It is a time for me to sit down and be creative. They are all simplistic in design but so am I. I was touched when I found out they have kept their collection of cards. Below are some of my favorites. Do you make your own valentines? I am very appreciative when I receive a handmade card. My youngest niece is arriving tonight and I can not wait to make valentines with …

Swanks Farm

I can not think of a better way to start out 2013 than attending a charity event with a great group of friends. Sunday I attended a Swank Farm’s “Farm to Table” event benefiting the Milagro Center, a charity near and dear to my heart. The event started with mojitos and hors d’oeuvres. Jodi and Darren Swank gave a talk about the farm and eating locally grown produce. Aran Goyoaga was signing her book Small Plates and Sweet Treats. The book was nominated for the James Beard award. I will …

How to apply the pattern mixing trend to your wardrobe

In interiors we combine various patterns with ease and view the collaborated look as appealing. When we are getting dressed, however, patterns seems to become confusing and awkward. Perry Ellis was known for mixing patterns, especially stripes and polka dots. Ralph Lauren, too, is an expert at combining patterns. While working at Ralph Lauren and Perry Ellis I was constantly putting together various prints. Recently, I  have been inspired to mix things up a little. I started doing some research and found patterns to be mixed everywhere. This post will …
